Explanation

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a government-backed savings scheme launched under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, designed to encourage savings for the girl child's education and marriage expenses.

Key Features

Minimum deposit: ₹250/year. Maximum: ₹1,50,000/year. Deposits are made for the first 15 years, while the account matures in 21 years from the date of opening. Partial withdrawal (up to 50%) is allowed after the girl turns 18.

Tax Benefits

SSY enjoys EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) tax status — investments qualify for Section 80C deduction, interest earned is tax-free, and the maturity amount is also tax-free.

Formula

The account earns annual compound interest. Deposits for years 1–15, with interest accruing for all 21 years.
